Should students participate in extracurricular activities?

Nowadays, students in secondary school compulsory to participate in extracurricular activities. The purpose of the Ministry of Education implement this principal is genuinely wish to produce well-rounded students, not only the academic excellent nerd. Despite the meaningful purpose of the Ministry, many students are complaining about the participation in extracurricular activities. Some of them may argue that the participation in extracurricular activities is merely a window-dressing. However, in my point of view, students definitely will benefit from the participation in the extracurricular activities.

First of all, extracurricular activities help the students to use their time wisely. Teenagers in the era of “dot.com” are facing many irresistible temptations. More and more youngsters indulge themselves in the cyber world; the time they spend on the internet is worrying. In this case, participation in the extracurricular activities serves as a bridge for the teenagers to go back to live a fulfilling life. Being a good student does not mean that someone need to be a hermit, it does means that we have to budget our time wisely. Participation in the extracurricular activities enables student to have social time without putting their academics in the jeopardy.

Moreover, participation in extracurricular activities helps students to develop good character. Uniform clubs such as Boy’s Brigade, Red Crescent, Scouts, etc require high disciplines from the members. Students can assimilate these good qualities such as punctuality, responsibility and cooperation during their participation in extracurricular activities. Apart from that, students can learn soft skills such as leadership, taking skills and ways to live as a team player. These excellent characters are not taught in tedious school life. Students have chance to adopt these good character during their participation in the extracurricular activities.

In addition, participation in extracurricular activities provides the chances for student s to release their potentials and achieve their goals. In the real world, we aren't given opportunity, we have to fight for it. This is what Steve Job, CEO of Apple tell the world. With the extracurricular activities, students may know their covered prowess in one of the fields. Participation in extracurricular activities certainly a student's stepping stone to vying for the best.

In conclusion, students certainly benefit from participation in extracurricular activities, as these activities help to student's character, let students to indulge themselves in beneficial  activities and provide the stage for the students to release their potentials. Lastly as Albert Einstein once said, " learning is not a product of schooling but the lifelong attempt to acquire it." Hence, extracurricular activities should be part of every student's life.
